ERIKAS MIGRATION SOUTH 2010
Hello all just thought I would post some information about the migration of an Estonian female Osprey called Erika
Erika breeds in North Eastern Estonia near Narva which is close to the Russian border. This particular Osprey nest site is one of the oldest and longest established nest sites in Estonia and has a good history of successful breeding. Erikas Wintering site is known to be in East Africa, Eastern Sudan near the Ethiopian border, as Erika was fitted with a satellite trasmitter and her movements have been plotted. Erika started here migration on the 14th of August, heading South through Eastern Estonia and Latvia before spending two nights near Osupe in Eastern Latvia. On the 17th of August Erika headed South East and roosted East of Minsk at a place called Zhodzina in Byelorussia
I will update on progress when i can

The first stage of Erikas migration to Eastern Africa
she certainly does look confused but she still made it to Africa
Hi robbo, and all the others too!
A magnificent bird in the picture!
Maybe Erika also thought : I will show you! - and then headed to Africa. ~ A little extra adrenaline in those eyes, right?robbo kirjoitti:

Erika continued in a South Easterly direction and by the 21st of August had crossed into the Ukraine just North of Kiev
Erika took a more South Westerly direction on the next leg of her migration crossing the Ukraine, Moldova and Romania before arriving on the 23rd of August in Bulgaria being plotted just West of the Black Sea port of Varna
yes millan I believe she is an established adult female, has been breeding at the same nestsite for a few years now and has been satellite tracked to her East African wintering grounds before
.....Erikas European tour continues......
Erika resumed her migration on the 23rd of August, heading due South and keeping the Black Sea to the West of her, passed Burgas before crossing the border of Turkey. Continuing South, and no doubt joined by many other migrating birds of prey, she flew to the East of the Gallipoli Peninsular, crossing the Dardenelles
